16 - 25 yr old Transition Group

Gloucestershire Young Carers supports children and young people right up to 25 years.

The charity recognises that the issues faced by a 7 year old young carer are often very different to those faced by a 25 year old carer. While they are considered to be adults by the world at large, they are still very young, still at the beginning of their life.

But they are also moving from being a young carer to becoming an adult carer, a role with many expectations and which takes them into a new network of support with a host of new agencies to communicate with.

And on top of their changing carer role they are still facing the issues that other teenagers and young adults face - from emotional challenges of relationships to the stress of exams, the confusion over career choices to the day to day problems that crop up.

Whatever the issues they are facing, Gloucestershire Young Carers offers an outlet for them, an opportunity to still be a teenager while having space where they can feel comfortable talking about their issues.

The Transitions Group meet several times a year and welcomes young carers from across the county

The group is a place where, the young people can meet with peers, share their experiences, feelings or just have fun.

The Transitions Group is run by two of the charity's development workers who also co-ordinate away days and workshops.

The charity relies upon fundraising to pay for the Develpment Workers who run these groups and to pay for the trips and workshops for the group members.

The development workers who co-ordinate the group, also offer individual advice and signpost young carers to other sources of support.
