Drive for Drivers

The support we offer young carers takes many forms including helping them to attend young carer group meetings, daytrips, residentials and other events.

These activities enable young carers to have a break from their caring role, gain support from their peers and staff, have fun and access opportunities often not available to them. Often these are a lifeline to young carers, breaking down isolation and enabling them to enjoy the opportunities which most young people take for granted.

One of the major barriers to accessing these services for many young carers is the lack of transport within the family. This may be due to disability or illness of family members or because of financial restraints. They may live in an isolated rural location. They may have no extended family network or it could be a combination of all these factors.

In order to enable these young carers to access activities organised by Gloucestershire Young Carers we arrange transport for those young people who would otherwise be unable to attend the groups or outings, or where the provision of transport by the family would cause excessive hardship or stress.

This is where we need volunteer support.

If you have access to a car and a few hours to spare each week then you may be able to help. Mileage allowance would be paid and you would be required to provide two character references and undergo a Criminal Records Bureau clearance process.

If you would like to know more then please contact Sue on 01452 733060 or email sue@glosyoungcarers.org.uk
